CBSS fleet comms crackle to life. "This is Parsnips here, reporting in from the Motherland 1. Looking at the threat board, I'm thinking we're going to want both offensive and defensive lines. Our priority is protecting the transport. Let's make sure we've got at least two frigates on escort duty, one on either side. The rest of us should stay out in front of it until we can make a hole in their defenses big enough for the big guy to safety get through. Sound good?" (edited)

The enemy craft are enemy cruiser , a pair of heavy frigates and ten support craft split between patrol boats and destroyers occupy the system all painted in Ascension Cult purple and blue. They spread out in a loose screen between the shipyard and the planet trying to block your path.

Star Captain You have a tremendous natural talent for ship combat, and can make any starship you captain a significantly more fearsome opponent. You must take the captain’s role during a fight as described on page 117 of the Ship Combat rules in order to benefit from this focus. Level 1: Gain Lead as a bonus skill. (those extra CPs are going to be huge. That is only going to apply to the ship you're actually on though, not the ones your just rolling for. If it's not too late, it would be better to have you in one of the cruisers with that foci)

(just doing the math quickly, we've got 10 NPC ships to divide between 4 of us. I've got the Destroyer. If I take one of the sickles too, that leaves 2 NPC sickles for everyone else, plus 2 more we'll have to figure out. Alternate is I just take the destroyer and everyone else gets three NPC sickles plus their PC ship.)

Three torpedoes smash into the Cruiser, damaging it heavily. It is aflame from bow to stern and dozens of gashes across its superstructure show crew, gasses, and fuel venting into the blackness of space. An aurora of greasy fire streams from the stricken craft as it tries to limp free of the growing debris field around it.

The cruiser is electrified as the CPC shells and torpedo slam into it. It rolls over onto its belly before exploding in a cascading fireball of debris. Nearby ships fire their engines and move to new positions to avoid getting caught by the debris.

A torpedo salvo from Preacher 2 towards Sickle 1 is their reply. There will be no surrender it seems. The two torpedoes miss (fire one gun x2) , running long on incorrect angles and exploding prematurely.

A pair of the Deacon patrol boats likewise try to return some fire to avenge their fallen flagship. Unable to square up with the cruisers, they focus fire on the wounded Sickle 5. The heavy frigate sails on, beams blackening its armored plating or sailing past it narrowly into space as it continues holding its place in the CBSS battle line. Preacher 2, who had caused damage on one of the glorious CBSS vessels is moderately damaged. Preacher 3 already close to the point of death simply stops moving as power is suddenly cut. It begins to float, stern tipping downwards before the spike drive inside catastrophically detonated

Heavy damage spreads across Preacher 1, its hull peppered and burned from the Flak and CPC hits. The thin armor of the corvettes is little protection against such concentrated fire. Several systems burn out from the charged CPC attacks, and another blow from them might disable it. Preacher 4 crashes into the wreck of preacher 3 as its bridge detonates from a concentrated round of fire. A second explosion rips through both wrecks and their orbit begins to drift toward the planet. (Sickle 2)

Deacon 4 does its best to try to concentrate fire on the wounded sickle, and the plasma beams batter its exterior, causing the first CBSS casualty of the battle as the drive core chamber is ruptured by super hot plasma fire.

Preacher 2 falters under the hail of deadly ordinance fired against it. The torpedo cracks the vessel in half before flak and CPC fire annihilate the two drifting sections of the ship. Any cult crew inside would have been atomized in this brutal display of overkill.

Deacon 5 begins turning its plasma turrets to a new target , trying to bracket the destroyer before it unleashed another rain of chaos onto the fleet Firing all its guns and then a snap shot from the bow turret after (fire one gun ) it seems several shots connect with the destroyer (18/16 ap10, and 16/9 ap10, final shot misses)

(If you used your volley capacitors they’re just once per battle. You can use support department every turn though which reduces the cost of one move by 2cp)

Preacher 5 and Deacon 2 are caught in the spread of torpedoes and are unable to power away in time without hitting the wreckage around them. New explosions rip through the rapidly depleting Ascension battle line and mayday calls go out to ships who are in no position to save them. (sickle 9)

Deacon 4 is buffered dozens of times over by heavy fire from Sickle 9. Disabled by the CPC, a finishing torpedo with a second volley collides with the patrol boat, causing it to explode violently. It's loss opens up a clear run at the planet for the transport/

Deacon 3 is disabled as a CPC hit manages to send its electronic systems into a frenzy of white noise and failing diagnostics. Its exterior lights shut off one by one. Inside, its crew is no doubt preparing for the eventual boarding. Deacon 5 is lightly damaged but not enough to take it out of the battle

Deacon 5 explodes as the battery of fire weighed against it overwhelms its meager armor. It joins the other drifting wreckage here, while Preacher 1 and Deacon 3 prepare to be boarded. Rescue efforts are underway to rescue sailors from the wreck of Sickle 5, and thus far things are not promising.

As poor as the chances are Lyuba looks at the wreak and coms the rest of the fleet "I am going to be attempting to see if I can save some lives today my fellow captians. I wish you well on your boarding actions and luck securing our fleets new prizes." (If he can do anything to boost rescue efforts Lyuba would do so.)
